Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup white wine
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices French bread toasted
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese grated

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 25 minutes.
  2. Add sugar and salt, cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in white wine to deglaze the pot, then add beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
